Site backlink checker for a ten-minute client triage

A new client sends a domain and asks if the links are fine. You have ten minutes. Five fields answer most of it, and four of the calls that fetch them cost nothing.

  • Free DR and overview lookup, no key, no card
  • Five fields, in a fixed order, per client
  • Bulk screen of 2,000 domains for 1 credit
GET /api.php?action=domainJSON

$ curl "https://linkskimmr.com/api.php?action=overview&q=clientsite.com&key=sk_live_..."

The first minute is one line

Overview is a free action, so you can run it before the kickoff call even starts. Swap in the client's domain.

bash
# minute 1: free, no key needed
curl "https://linkskimmr.com/api.php?action=overview&q=clientsite.com"

# minute 4: two credits, top linking domains
curl "https://linkskimmr.com/api.php?action=refdomains&q=clientsite.com&per=100&key=sk_live_..."

Who it is for

What a site backlink checker has to tell you in ten minutes

Not everything. A triage is a sorting job, and the output is one of three verdicts: leave it alone, dig deeper, or raise a flag with the client today.

Five fields get you there: the domain rating, the number of referring domains, the share of anchors that are exact-match, the top linked pages, and the list of the biggest linking domains. Each one has a threshold on the severity table, so you never argue with yourself about whether 41 is good.

Speed matters because the client already has an opinion, usually after a salesperson from another agency quoted them a scary number. You want to be holding your own numbers by the end of the call.

Everything comes from our own crawler and our own link index. It refreshes about once a month, so a link won last Tuesday may not be visible yet.

How it works

The ten minutes, in order

  1. 1

Minutes 0 to 1: the overview

Run the free overview for the client and note DR and referring domains with today's date.

  2. 2

Minutes 1 to 3: the rivals

Run the same call on two competitors the client names. Three rows in a notebook is the whole comparison.

  3. 3

Minutes 3 to 6: the top linking domains

Pull the biggest referring domains and read the list down. Odd TLDs, repeated networks and dead blogs jump out when you stop scrolling.

  4. 4

Minutes 6 to 8: anchors and pages

Anchors show whether links look earned. Top pages show where the value sits and whether it still resolves. The routine page has the read-down.

  5. 5

Minutes 8 to 10: the verdict

Write three lines: what you saw, what you would check next, what you would not touch. Send it before the client forgets the question.

Where this tool stops

A triage tool, not a full suite

We are good at the question who links to whom, at a price per call that lets you screen a whole prospect list. We do not do keywords, rank tracking or a daily-fresh crawl, and for those Ahrefs or Semrush are the fuller products.

  • DR here is our own 0-100 log-scale metric, not Ahrefs DR or Moz DA
  • A monthly refresh means last week's link may be missing
  • A missing link in our index is not proof that Google ignores it

Checklist

Before you send the verdict

  • The date of the lookup is in your note, because the index moves monthly
  • Two rivals are measured with the same call, not a different tool
  • You read the top 100 referring domains with your own eyes
  • Anchors were checked for a pile of one money phrase
  • Top pages still return 200, not a redirect chain or a 404
  • Nothing in the note says safe, penalty-proof or guaranteed

FAQ

What consultants ask before the first call

What is the fastest site backlink checker for a client I have not seen before?

Start with the free overview call: it returns DR and referring domains without a key. That is a ten-second sizing. Then spend credits only on the rivals, the top linking domains and the anchors, which cost 1 or 2 credits each.

How do I check a website backlink profile for free?

Use the box at the top of this page or call the overview, domain, stats or suggest actions. All four are free and need no key. Listings of individual links or anchors cost credits, but the $100 sign-up gift covers about a million basic calls.

Is DR here the same as Ahrefs DR?

No. Ours is our own metric: round(100 times log(referring domains plus 1) divided by log(20 million)). It is comparable in spirit to Ahrefs DR or Moz DA, never the same number, so do not mix sources inside one comparison.

How fresh is the data?

Roughly one month. We refresh the index about once a month, so a link placed last week can be missing. For daily-fresh crawling, a subscription tool from Ahrefs or Semrush is the better fit. Say the lookup date in every note you send.

Can I triage a whole prospect list?

Yes. bulk_dr takes up to 2,000 domains in one call for 1 credit, and compare handles up to 20. The prospect screen shows how to chain them so a long list becomes a short one.

What does it cost compared with a subscription?

Credits are prepaid at $0.0001 each, from $0.10 per 1,000 calls, with no monthly minimum. Ahrefs sells API units inside plans from $129 a month for 200,000 units. The side-by-side table lays out the rest.
